Sometimes issues with previews can be explained by the HTML size, image size, or the pixel height for a project. These impact the time it takes for your email to load, and in return Email on Acid is unable to get a true snapshot of your email. You may see distorted images, partial preview returns, or no previews returned. This also means the email will take more time to load than most of your readers are willing to wait, and you may lose engagement in your campaign.

HTML Size

Best practice is to keep your HTML size below 102KB. If your email size goes above this, you may begin to see issues with the speed your email is loading, and this could cause Email on Acid to return no previews for your test. Visit our blog to learn more about the impact of file sizes on email.

Image Size

Best practice is to have images under 200 KB. A simple way to check for this is to run the email through Campaign Precheck. If any images are large enough to slow down your email loading speed, you will get a warning message and can optimize the image.

Pixel Height

Best practice is to limit pixel height of the entire email to no larger than 5000 to 7000 pixels. Most web clients have pixel height limit of 7000, and some desktop and mobile clients have a pixel height limit of 5000. If an email is longer than this, it may get cut off at the footer or disclaimer. It could also render fully, but take an extended time to load, hurting reader engagement.

The Email Editor can help streamline your workflow by showing you real-time changes to your campaign. To create a new Email Editor Projects:

1. Click on Email Editor on the navigation pane.

2. Enter the Project Name and Subject Line, and if you are using Team Management select a folder to save to.

3. Chose how you would like to start your project; Enter the URL, Upload a Zip File, Choose one of our Templates, or click Start from Scratch to manually enter your HTML.

4. Select All Previews to view the 85 previews offered in editor, if you have a custom client list built you can choose that from the drop down or click on Manual Select to manually chose the clients you want to preview.

5. Click Start Building

Now your Email Editor project is started, you will see your HTML code on the left and the preview on the right. Any changes you make on the right will be immediately available to view on the right. Don’t forget to save your project as you go!

The tool bar on the upper left hand corner will help you with your edits offering Revision History, Image Library, Snippets, CSS Inliner, Character Converter, and Download.

At any time, you can click Change Clients on the upper-right to select different clients to view.

You can click Settings to change the details of the project or to view the project in Dark Mode.

Click Full Test to begin a Campaign Precheck which will allow you to perfect your email checking accessibility, images, links, spam, and our full list of clients!

You can navigate back to your campaign by clicking on the Project page in your navigation and clicking on the project. You can continue to edit and repeat the process until your email is perfect!

Some great points to know about the Email Editor:

  • Images are stored for 2 years after they are uploaded. After two years they will expire, and the URL will no longer be valid.
  • Your email is saved every time you hit the “Save” button on the upper right side of the code pane. If no changes have been made, the button will be greyed out and show “Saved.” Your code will also be saved when you run an email test. We do not otherwise autosave your code. You can use these saves to restore a revision at any time.
  • Editor projects are not able to be shared between users.

That’s a great question! Yes you can host images using Email on Acid. We offer free image storage and hosting via our Email editor tool. We store images for 2 years. We will not modify or alter your media in anyway. We don’t own the copyright to your media; we are simply providing a means of storage.

By adding your media to our service, you acknowledge that it will be publicly accessible. At this time, we do not offer private hosting.
This information can also be found in our privacy policy which can be found https://www.emailonacid.com/privacy/.

The image library can be found in the Email Editor tool. Once you have processed your HTML and are in the Editor tool the image library can be found in the second box.

If you select this it will bring up a window with the image library from here you can browse your computer to add images to your library so you can insert them into your code.

If your existing campaigns were sent with images hosted in this library, be cautious to delete as this will “break” those emails; the images will no longer be available.

Snippets are blocks of code that you map to a “shortcut” and save in our system. Any time you want to use that code, just type the shortcut and hit Ctrl+E and the shortcut will be replaced with the full code block. Use this to speed up your development by reducing the amount of time you spend typing the same thing over and over.

You can add a new snippet or delete one at any time. We also offer a number of useful snippets available to all users.
